Crew Chief
Recreation Center
The City of Rochester is currently inviting applications forthe position of Crew Chief at the Recreation Center.
The City of Rochester, Minnesota (pop. 123,000 ) Parks and Recreation Department provides a variety of leisure time opportunities for people to enjoy and manages more than 5000 acres of park land and open space including over 140 individual parks and 85 miles of paved trails.
Providing traditional, innovative, and affordable quality services (activities, programs, and facilities) for Rochester's citizens and visitors.
Nature of Work This position is responsible for providing work direction to staff completing custodial and building maintenance duties at the Recreation Center.
Additionally they are responsible for operating an ice resurfacing machine, operating snow removal equipment, general custodial duties, building maintenance, minor maintenance and repair of equipment, set-up and tear down of rooms, and performing other related duties as required.
This position is also responsible for overseeing patron use of the facility while providing excellent customer service and maintaining a clean, safe facility.
Most work is performed independently under the general supervision of the Recreation Center Manager.
Distinguishing Characteristics
This position serves in a lead role for custodial and building maintenance-related activities by assisting with : orientation / training, coordinating work schedules, and providing work direction to other custodial staff and limited appointment / seasonal / temporary workers.
Work Schedule
This position will work Tuesday through Saturday, from 3 : 30 pm to midnight. However, the days and hours may vary seasonally.
Pay Starting salary $29.39 an hour with advancement to $37.56.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Education and Experience
Graduation from a two-year building utilities / maintenance program, or equivalent educational program and at least four years of full-time employment experience performing janitorial, custodial and / or building maintenance duties associated with a public assembly facility, with at least two years of experience in directing, planning, and scheduling assignments.
an equivalent combination of education and public assembly facility experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job.
Licenses and Certifications
Valid driver's license.
Special" Boilers License for the operation of low pressure boilers within one year of hire as a condition of continued employment.
Certified Pool Operator (CPO) within one year of hire as a condition of continued employment.
DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS
STAR, certification in ice rink painting and equipment operations or related experience.
Custodial or building maintenance responsibilities resulting in the knowledge of the operation, maintenance of HVAC; plumbing, and electrical systems;
automated energy management monitoring and control programs (Andover). Prior experience with heating, cooling, absorption chillers, and other building systems preferred.
ADDITIONAL INFORMATION
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES
Knowledge of : equipment operations and maintenance techniques; building cleaning practices, supplies, and equipment; basic building maintenance practices.
Skill in : providing work direction to others; the use of tools and materials commonly used in building cleaning, maintenance and repair activities and minor construction projects.
Ability to : perform minor maintenance tasks in the field of carpentry, painting, plumbing and electricity; deal tactfully with the general public;
understand and effectively carry out oral and written assignments.
